Similar species: Monopis weaverella has the pale central blotch placed further back and a larger pale area of scales at the trailing corner of the forewing (tornus).
Forewing: 5 to 9.5mm
Habitats: Wherever it can source the larval foodstuffs.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from a silk tunnel on detritus in bird's nests, on owls pellets, wool fabric and dried animal and bird carcases outdoors. It has also been recorded from stored products such as bird guano.
