Similar species: Monopis laevigella has the pale central blotch placed further forward and an indistinct pale area of scales at the trailing corner of the forewing (tornus).

Forewing: 5 to 9.5mm

Habitats: Wherever it can source the larval foodstuffs.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on owl pellets, animal faeces and dryed animal carcases. It is occasionally found in bird nests.
