Similar species: This species has a thin white band across the dark scales on the leg.

Habitats: Deciduous woodland, parkland, fens and marshes.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva at first mines the underside of a Sycamore leaf in the angle between the veins. It later makes a succession of two or three small downward cones at the end of a leaf lobe which are sometimes on a different leaf. The larva is occasionally found on Field Maple or other maples. The larva pupates under a pale green membrane under the leaf.
