Common
Similar species:
Forewing: 5 to 6.5mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland, woodland margins, scrub, parks, gardens and rocky coastal slopes.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: Several larvae form parallel lower surface gallery mines in the leaves of privets, Ash or Lilac and occasionally Jasmine. These mines eventually lead to a large brown blotch which is occupied by more than one larva. They then leave the mines living gregariously in two successive downward rolled cones. The larva pupates under a silk membrane under a leaf.
