Gracillariidae

15.015 Ribwort Stilt Aspilapteryx tringipennella (Zeller, 1839)

Common

Similar species:

Forewing: 5 to 6.5mm

Habitats: Downland, pasture, wasteland and wherever the foodplant is present.

Habits: The moth occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva forms a winding bladdery gallery mine on the lower side of a Ribwort Plantain leaf. This later becomes a large silvery blotch on the upperside, over which the leaf folds due to the mine down the centre. The larva may move to another leaf. It pupates in a cocoon in the mine.
