Gracillariidae

15.027 Hornbeam Parornix Parornix carpinella (Frey, 1863)

Notable A

Similar species:

Forewing: 4 to 5mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland.

Habits:

Foodplant: The larva mines a Hornbeam leaf. This mine is expanded internally to become a full depth, elongated, inflated blotch which is mottled on the underside unlike that of Phyllonorycter tenerella which has the same host. It then inhabits two successive folds which are usually formed near to the petiole. Pupation takes place under a folded leaf edge.
