Habitats: Deciduous woodland, marshes and fens.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives in a frass covered silk tube under bark, in a crevice on dead wood or a tree trunk, feeding on dead wood or lichens including Lacanora conizaeoides. It has also been found in mite galls on sallow. Pupation takes place in the feeding place.
