32.025 Carline Buff Agonopterix nanatella (Stainton, 1849)
Notable B
Similar species:
Forewing: 6.5 to 8mm
Habitats: Limestone and chalk downland.
Habits: The moth occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The young larva mines the upper side of a young leaf of Carline Thistle, causing a blotch that contracts the leaf, rolling it inwards. There are frequently seven or eight larvae on a plant resulting in many leaves drawn together, conspicuously exposing the white undersides. In a later instar the larva draws two leaf edges together and feeds in the rolled leaf. It pupates in the earth or in the leaf litter.
