Habitats: The lower open woodland slopes of mountains and glens, preferring the denser Juniper bushes away from trees, in open birch woodland, on south facing slopes.
Habits: The moth occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva makes a dense silk spinning amongst Juniper needles. Some larvae are full-fed and pupate in September, others go through the winter as a small larva or an egg (this is unknown) and feed up in the spring. It pupates in the larval spinning with or without a cocoon.
