Habitats: Dry acid grassland and embankments, stony or sandy soils, dry heaths, the drier parts of marshes, cleared forest and scrub.
Habits: The moth can be swept from the foodplant. It flies in sunshine and from dusk. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in the rootstock and lower stem of Common Sorrel and Sheep's Sorrel. The full-fed larva overwinters in the rootstock and pupates there in early May.
