Habitats: Moorland including high altitude mountain slopes in Scotland, heaths and mosses (raised bogs).
Habits: It is associated with short Heather regrowth and rocky areas with low vegetation, where it flies on sunny days.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from within the spun leaves of Heather. It overwinters as a larva in a spinning. On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Bell Heather and Mountain Everlasting.
