Similar species:
Forewing: 8 to 9.5mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland margins, mature lines of poplars along roads and in parks and large gardens.
Habits: The moth rests on tree trunks during the day. If disturbed it runs up the trunk or flies. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in a leaf spun so that it folds upward forming a pod on Black Poplar and Lombardy Poplar. It pupates (sometimes gregariously) in a dense white cocoon spattered with debris under the bark of the foodplant. On the European mainland it is also recorded feeding on Balsam Poplar, Bolle's Poplar and Laurel Poplar.
