Habitats: England: Chalk and limestone downland and short-turfed dry grassland. Scotland: Well-drained mildly acid pastures and heaths or base-rich soils.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed during the evening and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in a compact ball of silk between the terminal shoots of Common Rock-rose or Hoary Rock-rose. This may be abandoned for a second spinning. It pupates in a flimsy cocoon in the leaf litter.
