37.003 Sea-lavender Case-bearer Coleophora limoniella (Stainton, 1884)
Notable B
Similar species:
Forewing: 5 to 5.5mm
Habitats: Salt-marsh.
Habits: The moth flies in the afternoon.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Sea Lavender, using an empty flower with its calyx for a case. The case is then attached to a succession of calices so that it can feed on the seeds. The larva eventually bores into the stem to overwinter in October, dropping the flower and closing the hole with silk. It pupates in late May in the stem.
