Coleophoridae

37.013 Keeled Case-bearer Coleophora siccifolia Stainton, 1856

Notable B

Similar species:

Forewing: 5.5 to 6.5mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland, scrub and downland.

Habits:

Foodplant: The larva causes brown blotches on the leaves of birches, Hawthorn, apples and Rowan. The early larva overwinters in its first 3.5mm long case. It overwinters again at the end of its second year. Its case is untidily formed from bits of mined leaves with a loose flap, giving the case an appearance of dried leaves. On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on limes and Alder and has a one year lifecycle, which could be the case in parts of southern Britain.
