Habitats: Deciduous woodland, parkland, hedgerows and scrub.
Habits: The moth occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on elms. It first makes a short mine containing frass. It cuts its first case from the end of the mine. A second case is cut in which it overwinters in an angle between twigs. The third and final long, two-valved compressed case is cut from the leaf margin and is 9 to 11.5mm long, m.o. at a 0 to 20° angle. It fixes the case in an angle of a twig and may overwinter a second time. It pupates attached to a twig.
