Habitats: Deciduous woodland, parkland, hedgerows and scrub.
Habits: The nocturnal moth occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larval feeds on on the lower twigs of elm trees and the upper twigs of elm bushes. At first it makes a linear mine containing frass, cutting a case at the end. It may overwinter in this first case or feed up by the autumn. The final bivalved case is cut from the basal margin of a leaf and is 5 to 6mm long, m.o. at a 0 to 10° angle. It pupates attached to a twig or a leaf.
