Similar species:
Forewing: 3.25 to 4.25mm
Habitats: Open woodland.
Habits: The mines are found on plants in the open or semi-shade.
Foodplant: The larva mines a leaf of Hairy Wood-rush. In the autumn it makes a long, straight, upper surface gallery mine from the base of the leaf, which is broadened into a large inflated blotch in the spring, occupying the basal third of the leaf. A second or even a third mine may be formed on a fresh leaf at this time. These narrow galleries travel down the leaf gradually widening into an inflated blotch. The larva is dull green, but yellowish below. It has a pale brown head and a yellow-green thoracic plate. It pupates in June, away from the mine.
