Forewing: 5.5 to 6.5mm

Habitats: Woodland margins, scrub and hedgerows.

Habits: The moth flies around hawthorns in morning sunshine.

Foodplant: The larva bores the pith near the tip of a Hawthorn twig. It inhabits the thin young side twigs of the bush. The elongate exit hole is on the underside of the twig near a fork and is covered by a flap of bark. The larva is brownish white with brown spotting. The head, prothoracic and anal plates are dark brown. It pupates in a chamber in the gallery and emerges the following May.
