Habitats: Deciduous woodland and parkland.

Habits: The moth rests low down on mature oak trunks during the day.

Foodplant: The larva tunnels the living bark of large mature oaks. Its presence can be detected by the extruded orange frass that can be found in cracks in the bark. It pupates in the bark.
