Similar species: Amblyptilia acanthadactyla is overall more red-brown rather than grey-brown, has shallower dark teeth on the trailing edge of the wings and a less bright spot near the end of the leading edge of the forewing.

Habitats: Damp woodland and hedgerows.
Habits: The moth occasionally flies in sunshine. At night it visits the flowers of Ivy, sallows, ragwort, goldenrod and woundworts. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flowers and developing seeds of Hedge Woundwort, Common Stork's-bill, crane's-bills, Primrose and Columbine. It prefers plants growing in the shade. It pupates either amongst the seed-heads or attached to a stem.
