Similar species: Males of Zelotherses paleana are orange-yellow at the base of the forewing and on the thorax. Aphelia unitana males occasionally have a slight yellow colouring in these areas.

Habitats: High moorland valleys, bogs, calcareous grassland and limestone dales.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day.
Foodplant: The larva feeds within spun leaves on many herbaceous plants including brambles, Angelica, Hogweed, leeks, onions, Common Knapweed, Wood Sage, Common Sorrel, Dog's Mercury, strawberries, Smooth Lady's-mantle and Common Dog-violet. It pupates in the larval habitation.
