Similar species:

Forewing: 5 to 7mm

Habitats: Wooded hedgerows, marshes, fens, river-banks and other damp areas.

Habits: After emerging, the moth stays in the tops of the trees unless washed out by heavy rain. It occasionally flies around the trees in hot sunshine and at dusk.

Foodplant: The larva at first feeds from two leaves spun together, but later it eats the shoots and leaf stalks. Its foodplants are elms, Black Poplar and Bird Cherry. In September the full-fed larva overwinters in a spinning under the bark, where it pupates in April.
