Tortricidae
49.114 Lesser Marbled Straw Aethes hartmanniana (Clerck, 1759)
Notable B
Similar species: Aethes piercei is a larger species (7 to 11mm) with narrower forewings.
Forewing: 5 to 8mm
Habitats: Chalk and limestone downland and similar grasslands.
Habits: It is easily disturbed by day and flies at dusk. It occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain, but it occurs amongst Small Scabious and Field Scabious and probably feeds in the rootstock of these plants and perhaps also on knapweeds. As with similar species it probably overwinters full-fed and pupates in the rootstock.
