Habitats: Sparsely vegetated chalk and limestone grassland, coastal slopes, vegetated shingle and sand-dunes.
Habits: It may fly in the afternoon and evening in warm weather. It otherwise flies at sunset and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds at first in the lower stem of Wild Carrot, where frass gives away its presence in the autumn. It then mines down to feed in the rootstock where it overwinters. It pupates in a brownish cocoon in late April.
