Habitats: Damp woodland rides and margins, marshes, fens, the margins of ponds and streams, willow beds and hedgerows.

Habits: The moth flies from late in the evening. It later comes to light and sugar.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on catkins and later spun leaves of various sallows. It pupates in a white cocoon between spun leaves.
