Similar species: Endothenia quadrimaculana is on average larger (8.5 to 10.5mm) and often has more contrasting markings. If unsure of the identification, check the genitalia.
Forewing: 6.5 to 9.5mm
Habitats: Rough grassland, field margins, woodland rides and margins.
Habits: The moth flies slowly around its foodplants in the evening. It later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva mines the roots and underground stems of Marsh Woundwort and possibly Hedge Woundwort and Corn Mint. It pupates in the larval habitation, on the ground in leaf litter or under the soil.
