Habitats: Heathland and moorland.

Habits: The moth flies around its foodplant during the late afternoon and at sunset. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds from a silk tube on the ground running between the stems of Bell Heather and sometimes Heather and other heaths. It also feeds on Bearberry, but in this case it feeds under the leaves in silk between the leaves and the ground. It overwinters in a cocoon in the leaf litter where it pupates in early April.
