Habitats: Chalk downland, limestone pavement, scrub, damp woodland and boggy areas.
Habits: The moths are easily disturbed on warm days. It flies low over the ground from early in the evening and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The spring generation larva feeds in the flower-heads of Small Scabious and Devil's-bit Scabious, feeding on the unripe seeds then mining the stems. The second generation larva feeds at the plants base on the fresh leaves. When full-fed it overwinters in a cocoon in the soil, pupating there in March.
