Tortricidae

49.268 Saw-wort Tortrix Eucosma parvulana (Wilkinson, 1859)

Unknown

Similar species: Eucosma hohenwartiana looks similar, but is on average larger. For positive identification check the genitalia.

Forewing: 5 to 7.5mm

Habitats: Rough grassland, coastal grassland and open woodland rides.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from Saw-wort during the day. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds in a flower-head or seed-head of Saw-wort, feeding on the unripe seeds. The full-fed larva probably constructs a cocoon in the leaf litter and overwinters until it pupates in the spring.
