Habitats: Calcareous grassland, open woodland, woodland rides, wasteground, sand-dunes and vegetated shingle.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from its foodplant during the day. It flies from late evening and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in a flower-head of Common Ragwort feeding on the unripe seeds and sometimes boring down into the stem. The full-fed larva constructs a cocoon in the leaf litter, where it overwinters until it pupates in May.
