Similar species:

Forewing: 5 to 7.5mm

Habitats: Open woodland, coppiced woodland, calcareous downland and sea-cliffs.

Habits: The moth flies during the late afternoon and evening. It later comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives in the flower-heads of Goldenrod, feeding on the unripe seeds. It moves from flower to flower without spinning them. The full-fed larva constructs a cocoon in the leaf litter, where it overwinters until it pupates in early June.
