Habitats: Coniferous woodland and plantations, parkland and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies high amongst mature spruce in afternoon sunshine. It occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the seeds in the cones of Norway Spruce. It bores through the scales to get to the next seed. It pupates in the cone, in a cavity in a large seed scale.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Scots Pine and firs.
