Tortricidae

49.360 Shining Oak Tortrix Pammene splendidulana (Guenée, 1845)

Notable B

Similar species:

Forewing: 4.5 to 5.5mm

Habitats: Woodland, parkland and heathland.

Habits: The moth flies around the upper branches of oaks in late afternoon and early evening sunshine. It occasionally comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives in a silk gallery between two flat-spun leaves of Pedunculate Oak and other oaks, eating only the inners surface of the leaves and forming windows. In August the full-fed larva leaves the spinning and spins a cocoon under the bark or in rotten wood or in an old oak-apple or spongy gall. It then pupates, although it sometimes overwinters as a larva and pupates in March.
