49.381 Little Beech Tortrix Strophedra weirana (Douglas, 1850)

Local

Similar species: Pammene germmana has a different spacing of the leading edge striations.

Forewing: 4.5 to 5mm

Habitats: Woodland especially in calcareous areas.

Habits: In sunny weather the moth flies at sunrise and during the afternoon and evening. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva lives within two flat-spun leaves of Beech, where it eats the inner surface of the leaves causing blotches. The spinning has a very large amount of brown frass within it. The larva pupates within the feeding place, which eventually falls amongst the leaf litter.
