Habitats: Calcareous downland and cliffs and vegetated shingle.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed on sunny days. It flies from dusk and comes to light and sugar.
Foodplant: The larva overwinters while small. In the spring it draws together shoots of Common Bird's-foot Trefoil or White Clover, spinning them in a dense white web. Several larvae may feed gregariously. It pupates in a dense white cocoon in the leaf litter under the foodplant. On mainland Europe it has been recorded feeding on Black Medick.
