Habitats: Heathland, coastal cliff heathland, occasionally open acid woodland and downland.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from Heather during the day. It flies from dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in a frass-covered tubular web between the branches of Heaths or Heathers. It is also recorded from milk-worts and Common Thyme. It pupates in a dense white cocoon in the soil or under the foodplant.
