Forewing: 9 to 12.5mm

Habitats: Rough ground on chalk or sandy soils and Breckland.

Habits: The moth flies from dusk when it feeds at flowers of the foodplants and later comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on the developing seeds in the flower-heads of Common Ragwort, Spear Thistle and possibly Ox-eye Daisy and Tansy. It probably overwinters full-fed in the blackish cocoon under the earth or in leaf litter. It pupates in the cocoon in late May.
