Habitats: Woodland, scrub, heathland, wasteground, wetland, coastal sites and gardens.
Habits: The moth is nocturnal and flies from dusk, but is easily disturbed from vegetation during the day. It comes to light and after dark it visits Common Ragwort flowers and sugar.
Foodplant: The polyphagous larva feeds on deciduous trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. It initially feeds from under a multi-celled web below a leaf, but later on decaying leaves on the ground from under a flimsy web.
