Similar species: Pyrausta cingulata has a less wavy outer crossline.

Habitats: Chalk grassland and sometimes limestone grassland.
Habits: The moth flies in the day and at night. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the underside of a leaf of Common Thyme, Marjoram, Corn Mint, Woodruff or Squinancywort, making blotches and later holes. It pupates in an oval dirty white cocoon.
