Similar species:

Forewing: 11 to 12.5mm

Habitats: Hedgerows, dense scrub, woodland and gardens.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from Blackthorn during the day. It is nocturnal and comes to light.

Foodplant: The polyphagous larva feeds in the spun leaves of Hedge Woundwort, deadnettles, Dog's Mercury, Alexanders, Common Knapweed, Common Nettle, Blackthorn, Elder, brambles, Honeysuckle and elms. It overwinters in a rolled leaf margin. It recommences feeding in the spring after which it pupates in a white cocoon amongst the leaves of the foodplant.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded from Wood Anemone, Bilberry, oaks, Ash, Aspen, Alder, birches, Hazel, Wild Cherry, Wild Plum and Ivy.
