Similar species: Eudonia pallida is smaller (8 to 9mm) and has a paler, more obscure or absent inner crossline.

Forewing: 10 to 13mm

Habitats: Coastal cliffs, vegetated shingle, quarries, rocky hillsides, marshes, river-banks, wasteground, heathland, woodland and gardens.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from tree trunks and walls during the day. It flies from dusk and later comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on the roots of Bristly Ox-tongue and occasionally Colt's-foot. It eats grooves in the surface of the root from under a flimsy web. The larva pupates in an oval cocoon near the feeding place.
