Habitats: Deciduous woodland.
Habits: The moth rests on lichen covered trees during the day. It flies at night and comes to light.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain and Ireland. On the European mainland it is recorded as feeding on Common Haircap Moss Polytrichum commune and Swan's-neck Thyme-moss Mnium hornum from a frass-covered silk tube leading into the moss. It is also stated that the larva hibernates under the moss and that it pupates in a globular cocoon.
