Habitats: Calcareous downland, disused quarries, wasteland, coastal sand-dunes and vegetated shingle, grassy woodland clearings and sometimes gardens.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from short turf and rocks in the day. It flies from late afternoon until dusk. Later it comes to light and nectars at flowers such as Common Ragwort.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Ribwort Plantain. It lives in a slight web at the base of the plant while feeding on the decaying leaves. It may also feed at the roots of other plants such as Common Ragwort. It pupates in a sturdy cocoon probably in the leaf litter.
