Habitats: Open woodland, woodland margins, parkland, sand-dunes and gardens.
Habits: The moth rests on walls and tree trunks during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds from a sparse silk tube on mosses growing on tree trunks or old walls. It pupates in a silk cocoon wrapped with moss.
On the European mainland it has been recorded feeding on Cypress-leaved Plait-moss Hypnum cupressiforme, Rough-stalked Feather-moss Brachythecium rutabulum, Common Feather-moss Kindbergia praelonga and Redshank Moss Ceratodon purpureus.
