Habitats: Grasslands, calcareous grassland, marshes, heathland and gardens.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day and flies in sunshine. It flies from dusk and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva lives along the lower part of the stem of Sheep's-fescue or other small grasses. It has been reared from Glaucous Sedge. It pupates in a silk frass-covered cocoon.
On the European mainland it has been recorded from Smooth Meadow-grass.
