Similar species: Oak Hook-tip Watsonalla binaria has the area within the cross-band of a similar colour to the rest of the wing (not darker) and two spots within the forewing cross-band. It also has a lilac colour across the forewing when fresh.
Forewing: 12 to 17mm
Habitats: Calcareous Beech woods and other sites with mature Beech.
Habits: The male sometimes flies high around Beech trees during the day. Both sexes come to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the leaves of Beech. Oak has been accepted in captive specimens. Pupation takes place between spun leaves.
