Forewing: 17 to 20mm

Habitats: Woodland and stands of birch on heathland and moorland.

Habits: The moth is occasionally found on posts or resting on twigs. It sometimes flies in afternoon sunshine and later comes to light, sugar and sallow blossom.

Foodplant: The larva feeds at night on the leaves of Silver Birch and Downy Birch. During the day it rests between two spun leaves. It pupates in a flimsy cocoon in the leaf litter.
