Forewing: 34 to 38mm

Habitats: It has been recorded breeding on sand-dunes and other open coastal habitats. It is sometimes found inland on wasteground.

Habits: The moth comes to light. It flies from dusk and nectars at flowers.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Lady's Bedstraw, Hedge Bedstraw, Wild Madder, Rose-bay Willowherb or Broad-leaved Willowherb. In captivity it accepts Fuchsia, Enchanter's Nightshade, Greater Plantain, Clarkia and Godetia. It likes to bask in sunshine.
