Common

Similar species: Netted Carpet Eustroma reticulata is superficially similar until put along side this moth. Devon Carpet Lampropteryx otregiata is slightly smaller (12 to 14mm) has a large projection on the outer edge of the cross-band, and has a pale streak in the apex of the forewing that continues until the cross-lines (rather than winding back to the middle of the outer edge of the wing).

Forewing: 13 to 17mm

Habitats: Woodland clearings and rides, hedgerows, road verges, marshes, fens, calcareous grassland, river-banks, heathland, disused allotments, urban wasteland and gardens.

Habits: The moth is easly disturbed during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light and sugar.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Rosebay Willowherb, Broad-leaved Willowherb, other willowherbs, Enchanter's Nightshade and Touch-me-not Balsam. It pupates in the leaf litter.
